FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is "Personalized Metabolic Typing"?
As detailed on our home page, the PMT is a test which lets you know individually the exact diet for you or for your child. It guides us in designing a Nutritional Plan to help you to Optimal Health.

.What does the Metabolic Typing involve?

The PMT consists of three appointments:
  1. There will be an interview lasting from 30 to 45 minutes in order for Dr. Baldwin to assess what your needs are, and what problems you are facing. You will be given instructions to follow to prepare for the PMT.
  2. The second appointment lasts around 2 to 2 ¼ hours and consists of the following:
    1. Make an appointment with Dr. Baldwin's office, preferably for a morning.
    2. Do not eat or drink anything but water from midnight before you do the test. The reason to drink enough water so that you are not dehydrated is that when you arrive at the office we will ask you for a urine and saliva sample, so it is important that you not be dehydrated and that you be able to supply these samples.
    3. The reason to drink enough water so that you are not dehydrated is that when you arrive at the office we will ask you for a urine and saliva sample, so it is important that you not be dehydrated and that you be able to supply these samples.
    4. Empty your bladder before going to bed at night. DO NOT collect this urine.
    5. We will then give you a modified glucose/potassium drink and monitor its effect on your whole body and your reactions to this drink for 1 ½ to 2 hours. We monitor many facets of your metabolism and this allows us to "Type" you.
  3. The third appointment is a 45 minute consultation with Dr. Baldwin at which he will explain what your testing showed about your body and what supplements are needed for you to start on the Path to Optimal Health. We have the supplements available in our office for a very reasonable fee.

Does insurance cover the cost of any of these tests?
This varies greatly with the insurance plan you have. Different plans pay very different amounts. We will provide you with documentation of the fee charged by Dr. Baldwin. You can submit that to your insurance company for reimbursement. Insurance may not cover Dr. Baldwin's fee or the fees for the supplements.

What is the cost of the PMT?
The cost varies with your own health needs. The PMT consists of 3 appointments: an interview of 45 minutes, a 2 - 2 ½ hour appointment for the PMT, and a 45 minute consultation appointment with Dr. Baldwin. We will expect payment of $100.00 at the interview appointment and the remaining cost (which you will be told about at the interview) at the actual testing appointment. Supplement fees are separate

Why shouldn't I just buy my supplements at the health food store or discount store?
Dr. Baldwin has gone to a lot of trouble and research to make sure that the supplements he carries have two qualities: They contain the exact ingredients they say they contain. They release their ingredients into the body and are not just eliminated without doing good for the body. That is, they are effective!
