Treating Common Ailments

As a start, please note under our events section that the talk on “Greening Your House—Detoxification for the home” will take place on Thursday, September 11 at the Solomon’s Island office at 7PM. The Autumn Detoxification Group will run from Tuesday, September 30 until Monday, October 20. Supplements and directions will be on Thursday, September 25 at 7:00 PM also at the office. These are different dates than originally published in the Newsletter last month and I apologize for any confusion.

This month’s topic is taken from the April 2008 issue of the Harvard Health Letter, and it warms my heart to report this! The title of the article is: “The Seven Common Ailments which can be managed without medication.” It names the following ailments in this category:

Arthritis, Cholesterol, Cognitive Decline, Depression, Diabetes, High Blood Pressure, and Osteoporosis. Let’s look at what Harvard had to say about each of these:

1.     Arthritis: Osteoarthritis is the deterioration of cartilage which cushions the joints and is the most common form of arthritis among the elderly. The first and most important thing to do is optimize you diet by eating right for your Metabolic Type. Make sure you are getting optimal amounts of vitamin D (sunlight is still the best way, but impossible in the northern part of the USA including Maryland for 8 months of the year). Get adequate omega-3 fatty acids (Fish oils for protein types and flax and other seed oils for carb types). Get regular low-impact exercise (walking and light weights). Rheumatoid arthritis is an auto-immune disease in which your body starts to destroy itself. The joints may even become deformed. Eat right for your Metabolic Type, follow an anti-inflammatory diet, and take the supplements recommended by a qualified Nutritionist. Also, with RA, see if emotional causes are involved and get help for that from a qualified Counselor.

2.     Cholesterol: There is no such thing as “good” or “bad” cholesterol. Cholesterol is present because the body makes it in order to combat inflammation. In other words, blocking it will lead to all kinds of serious disease and even death. Blocking the formation of cholesterol will throw off hormones in both males and females. The best way to combat inflammation is with diet and dietary supplements. Eliminate sugar and most grains which will reduce your insulin levels and eventually naturally and healthfully reduce your cholesterol. Get regular low-impact exercise and take your omega-3 supplements and other supplements which target your problems and make your body function well. (By the way, the latest reports of statin drugs like Lipitor reducing the chances of age related cognitive decline such as dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease is patently ridiculous and should be taken off the airways before people who believe this are dying! In actuality, as Dr. Sherry Rogers has reported, “Lipitor guarantees deterioration of mind, heart and body while triggering cancer as it poisons cholesterol chemistry.”)

3.     Cognitive decline: There is an epidemic of Alzheimer’s Disease and dementia. To prevent these two age-related diseases, eat right for your Metabolic Type, take supplements for your Type, and get tested for diagnosis and then detoxified by a qualified Nutritionist. Avoid sugar, eat more vegetables, and get antioxidants into your body however you can. Get all your mercury fillings (amalgams or “silver fillings” removed by a Biological Dentist Check the IAOMT for a list of dentists. Avoid all aluminum cookware and cans, antiperspirants, and do not get flu vaccinations containing Thimerasol or aluminum (they all do at this time).

4.     Depression: Antidepressant drugs of any kind do nothing at all to treat the cause of depression! Combine good high quality supplements with a proper diet for your Metabolic Type, and do light exercise (see me for instructions on exercise), and get tested for and treated for toxicity by a qualified Nutritionist. Get proper counseling from a qualified person.

5.     Diabetes: Type II Diabetes is completely preventable and almost always reversible with proper dietary and lifestyle modifications! Include elimination of sugar, regular exercise, eating only the proper fats, getting proper omega-3 fats for your Metabolic Type, getting proper needed sleep, and lowering your weight. The reason eating right for your Metabolic Type is so important is that if you are a protein type you can swap out grains and sugar for proteins, but if you are a carb type you need to switch them our for more vegetable-only carbs. (Again, Metformin and all other drugs for diabetes are not only unnecessary, but they cause so many problems that they are a net health negative.)

6.     High Blood Pressure: HBP is a serious risk factor for heart disease. Possibly 90% of Americans may eventually be affected by HBP. Limiting grains and sugars along with regular light exercise will normalize blood pressure by lowering insulin levels. (Beginning to sound like a broken record, huh?)

7.     Osteoporosis: Again, exercise and diet are important. Vitamin D and K are also important. Increase vegetable consumption according to your Metabolic Type. If you cannot eat all the vegetables you need, buy a good juicer (Jack Lalane has a good one) and juice very vegetable for your Type that you can. If this is inconvenient, try the Nano-Greens that we sell in the office, and see the Supplement of the Month with this issue. Do not count on milk for the strength of your bones!! The only animal that drinks another animal’s milk is the human being! And the only animal that drinks any milk at all after weaning is the human being! Should we learn something from this? I think so. Cows don’t drink milk after weaning, and they have strong bones. They eat grass—we should eat vegetables, especially after being Metabolically Typed.

So, we don’t need pharmaceutical drugs for any of these afflictions!! And if you don’t understand Metabolic Typing, go to my Web Site and read further on it.

Until next month, keep healthy! And plan to come hear our presentation on having a healthy non-toxic home on Thursday, September 11 and plan to sign up for our Group Detoxification with the first talk scheduled for Thursday, September 25. You owe it to your body to clean it up!

Please tell your family, friends, co-workers, and everyone you know to please sign up for the Newsletter Pathways to Optimal Health at www.wholebodyhealth.us and tell them it’s free!

As always, your questions, comments, and suggestions are welcomed!

All of Dr. Baldwin’s recommendations are based on solid scientific research.  However, no one Nutritional Plan will work for ever person, nor will any one Nutritional Plan work for every disease or degenerative condition.  Pathways is not a substitute for proper medical diagnosis of conditions which may require medical or surgical intervention.  Our Diagnostic System allows us to treat the person with the condition and not the condition that has the person.  Our program is not simply a weight loss program.  It is a program intended to help the client learn how he or she can attain optimal health and wellness with a healthy immune system.  We maintain that everyone should be able to live life to the fullest and enjoy each day of life. Healthy Recipe for August, 2008

Salad Dressings

So many of us think that by eating a lot of salads we are making a healthful choice. But many of the dressings we use are not the best choice. Most restaurant and grocery store dressings are dead (having been made days or weeks in advance) and also are made with cheaper hydrogenated oils like vegetable or soy that the body turns into trans fats which damage our health. What we have to do is to make a variety of salad dressings using fresh herbs, along with the best oils and other ingredients high in Phytonutrients.

Try these two dressings while all of the ingredients are fresh and easily available. You will not believe the wonderful taste!

Caesar dressing:

In a blender put 1 cup unfiltered cold pressed organic olive oil, the juice of 1-2 fresh lemons, one free-range organic egg, 2-3 tablespoons of grated Parmesan or Romano cheese, a can of anchovy fillets, and 2-3 cloves of freshly minced garlic. Blend and serve over organic Romaine Lettuce with fresh cracked pepper and more cheese. Make your own croutons using oiled and herbed breaks, chopped and broiled to crispy brown in seconds.

Ophelia’s Dressing:

In a blender add 1 cup unfiltered cold pressed organic olive oil or Macadamia nut oil, 1/3 cup pear balsamic vinegar, a peeled and minced chunk of ginger root the size of half your thumb, 1-2 cloves of freshly minced garlic, 1/2 -1 teaspoon mustard powder, 2-4 tablespoons of fresh organic maple syrup, and the juice of ½ fresh lemon. This goes will with mixed organic baby lettuces, herbs, arugula, and/or cilantro. On top add thin slices of pear, a few chunks of gorgonzola, and salted pecans quickly sautéed in butter on top.

And don’t forget the fresh tomatoes which are all around us at this time of year!!

Supplement of the Month

Nano-Greens

While all of us who are Nutritionists will tell you that we should all get our nutrients from the food we eat, we also know that the real world is a lot more complicated than that. For all the reasons I’ve stated before, getting all of our nutrients from our food is almost impossible. (No vitamins and minerals in the soil=no vitamins and minerals in the plants and the meat that eats those plants; processing takes out most of the nutrients; cooking takes out most of the nutrients. The total exposure to toxins is growing so outrageously fast that we cannot as human beings keep up with our toxin loads; therefore, we need to supplement even a very good diet.

I have always liked “Green Drinks” for supplementation of complex carbohydrates, but they always tasted like old grass! Then our twin nephews, Kevin and Jason from Chicago introduced us to Nano-Greens. They learned about Nano-Greens from a friend who was battling cancer and swore by them. When we tried them we found them to be very pleasant tasting, and I’ve used them ever since. I encourage you to eat more vegetables and some fruits of the low glycemic variety, but I also know that it is very difficult to eat enough. Each serving of Nano-Greens has 10 servings of organic vegetables and fruits included and the nano-technology makes the absorption unparalleled. It is pure (no pesticides or any other toxins used in growing or manufacture) and 100% vegan. As I said, it supplies the phytonutrient based antioxidant power of 10 or more servings of dark greens and brightly colored fruits and vegetables of all the colors. All activity is confirmed by independent laboratory analysis.

A recent study out of the U. of Miami Medical School showed that 2 scoops of Nano-Greens per day gave a “significant reduction in high blood pressure.” Of course, Phytonutrients are extremely important to battling all of the diseases of aging and degeneration including heart disease and cancer.

Call us to order Nano-Greens for your complete nutritional program.
